If World Gin Day passed you by, don’t fret, World Negroni Week is here from 24 – 30 June. This global celebration, which returns for the sixth year, is set to be bigger than ever, with 2019 marking the 100th anniversary of the quintessential summer cocktail. As ever, London has gone all out for the occasion. Read on for our round-up of the best Negroni events across the capital.
The perfect experience for connoisseurs and those interested in becoming a master of the iconic Italian drink, Theo Randall’s intimate ‘Negroni Masterclass’ launches 26 June. The 90-minute masterclass will have guests perfecting the Classico and Sbagliato before creating their own bespoke cocktail. Once guests are satisfied with their blend of gin, vermouth and bitters, they will receive a personalised card with the recipe for their tailor-made tipple. Theo Randall’s team will also store the details on their system – meaning next time they visit the restaurant ‘their usual’ will be ready for them. Tickets are available online at £49pp.
This June, guests at Kitty Hawk can enjoy a modern spin on the traditional Negroni. Head Bartender Osvaldo Romito has created a ‘Black Negroni’, replacing gin with Guinness and mixed with Campari and Martini Rosso. There will also be the ‘Clear Negroni’ which will contain a separated warm milk wash as a result of Osvaldo’s experimentation with the clarification process.
Flat Iron in London Bridge is serving up their cocktails in something a little different – their very own Negroni fountain. Pour yourself a blood orange Negroni, with a mix of fresh Tarocco blood orange juice and cold extracted Israeli blood orange oil.
Hans’ Bar and Grill
The Chelsea Bar in the historic 11 Cadogan Gardens Hotel off the Pavillion Road in Chelsea is spicing up the cocktail experience with a dedicated Negroni Menu ranging from a smoky Negroni, a signature Cadogan Negroni and even an alcohol-free Negroni using aromatics available for you to enjoy.
Over two days (24 & 25 June), Mele e Pere will giveaway 100 free Negronis. All you have to do is say “La vita Campari”, and the cocktail is yours. Guests of the Italian trattoria will also have the opportunity to join one of five Negroni masterclasses. Each masterclass will showcase a different craft gin or vermouth on each day, appealing to novices and experts alike. Glass Room, Bateaux
Glass Room, Bateaux London’s fabulous restaurant and bar on the Thames, has teamed up with award-winning Italian dry gin brand, VII Hills, to bring you the capital’s only Floating Negroni Bar. Popping up for one month starting on 24 June, you’ll be able to kick back and sip on four exclusive Negronis with a twist to celebrate the centenary of Italy’s iconic red bittersweet aperitif. Grab your sunglasses and get ready to set sail in true Italian style.
For just one day (25 June) Jealous Prints contemporary gallery based in East London’s creative hub of Shoreditch will be presenting the creative history of the Negroni and invite guests to create their own personalised Negroni and Negroni artwork.
Tickets are £10, including two drinks and your very Negroni print to take away.
Often regarded as one of Shoreditch’s best cocktail bars, Callooh Callay will showcase the global story of the Negroni. The story may have started in Florence but is spans across the globe and involves Milan, the city of the Bitter, Turin, the city of the Vermouth, London, where Count Camillo used to go, and New York of the Golden Age of Cocktails.
Vermuteria, located in Coal Drops Yard, King’s Cross is an all-day café and bar serving a fine collection of cocktails and Vermouth. A dedicated Negroni will be available on the terrace of Vermuteria for you to choose from. Be sure to try the Clear Negroni made with a rare 1965 Campari Cordial.
Six Storeys SOHO
Free and open to the public, Italspirits Negroni experience pop-up is a must. Here for just four days, guests will have the opportunity to try blends mixed by bartenders from all over the world. Spaces are limited, so register online to receive a free Negroni on entry.
