SMART LAYERING

Spring is the time of year to be layer savvy. This will not only help you adapt to the fluctuating temperatures but it will also give you a chance to experiment with new style combos. This season’s floral maxi trend becomes wind-proof when worn under an oversized cashmere knit. Your summer khaki jacket can make an early appearance when layered under a smart blazer. Silky cami tops made wearable when slipped over a crisp shirt. Simple combos can be the chicest.

GET CREATIVE WITH SPRING SHOES

We spend all autumn and winter trudging around in heavy boots and practical lace-ups. Now we’re no longer in danger of imminent foot frostbite it’s time to unearth those spring shoes. Whether it’s a heeled mule, slip-on loafer or kitten heel, adding a pair of new season beauties will instantly give your outfit a spring lift. For chillier days simply pair with sheer black tights or fishnet socks.

FALL IN LOVE WITH CULOTTES

This year’s hottest trouser style just happens to be the perfect style solution for spring. Smart yet stylish, they can be dressed up or down depending on the temperature. Perfect for work with ankle boots and a crew neck knit, and sunny Sunday-ready when paired with platform sandals and an off-the-shoulder blouse.

EMBRACE NEW SEASON SHIRTING

When t-shirts bring you out in goose pimples and heavy knitwear has you sweating on the tube, the new season shirt is the answer to your prayers. Tucked into cropped flares, worn loose over wide leg trousers or layered under a slip dress, the classic shirt can do no wrong.

INJECT SOME COLOUR

It might sound simple, but now that your SAD is starting to dwindle it’s time to inject a bit of colour into your outfits. During winter we tend to go into sartorial hibernation, cocooning ourselves in muted layers. Spring, however, offers us a chance to embrace our inner butterfly. Try a colour-pop duster coat or vibrant neck scarf or, for the less brave, a bright shoe or mini bag. Watch your mood instantly lift.

BARE LEGS WITH A MIDI

As Brits we have a tendency to get overexcited with the merest suggestion of warm weather. Unfortunately, the reality is not so simple. If you’re wanting to expose your pins for the first time this year then try a midi skirt. Whether it’s SS17 a-line denim or a flowy pleated number, simply pair with a long sleeve top or light knit and statement ankle boots for easy chic.
