Fake it ’til you make it with six essential tips for hiding seasonal flu face this January
Goodbye Flu Face
How to reduce the visible signs of a cold when you need to get on with your day
Puffiness and redness are key giveaways to a cold. I recommend using a soothing balm packed full of Vitamin E on any red or sore areas to help to soothe and protect from the cold and to prevent skin from looking flakey. Use a green based creamy concealer to counteract any red tones and follow with your foundation then dust some light reflecting powder to brighten and reflect away from any redness.
How to reduce puffiness and redness around the eyes
Use ice cubes wrapped in gauze and circle around your eyes or areas of congestion, it really helps to reduce any inflammation. Carry out a light lymphatic drainage movement around your eyes: use your ring finger and a cold eye gel (keep in fridge overnight) and starting from just below the rear duct and bridge of your nose using light pressure point padding motions to your temples, then inner corner of your eye socket up and across the brow bone.
How to hide red and blotchy skin – especially when you’re wiping your nose nonstop
It’s really important to have a balm to use around the nose to protect it from becoming extra sore and inflamed. I love to mix a little of my concealer with a balm (or even a little Vaseline) and use a cotton bud to apply when needed.
Makeup tones that are most flattering when you’re under the weather
Anything with pink tones brightens your skin and light reflection is key. Wake up your face with highlighter – apply it in the inner corners of your eyes to make them appear more awake.
How to make your makeup stay put
Use a good primer and dust translucent powder throughout the day and use a facial spritz to bring your make-up and face back to life with a burst of hydration!
What ingredients to avoid if you’re suffering from a cold
Any retinols, glycolic or AHA products, as they will sting and may aggravate already sensitive skin. Keep moisture in and just use gentle, perfume free products. Maybe opt for a waterproof mascara if your eyes are streaming.
