London’s food and drink scene come to the forefront in autumn with a wealth of new season produce, new menus and festivals. There’s also a load of new art work to look forward to and we’ve rounded up a few of the best shows to book now. What with all this activity, we won’t be too disheartened as we wave goodbye to summer. Here are a few things to look forward to…

ASCOT’S FESTIVAL OF FOOD & WINE

Ascot’s four day Festival of Food and Wine is back for a glorious day of racing and fine dining on the 9th September. Renowned chefs Raymond Blanc, Phil Howard and James Tanner, alongside Ascot’s award-winning head chef Ben Dutson have sorted lunch. It will be eaten overlooking the racetrack, along with an afternoon tea demo from Bake Off winner Candice Brown.

SEVERN SISTERS’ FEAST

Autumn Events

Borough Market are opening its doors to 150 guests for a seven-course meal from the Severn Sisters. The group is made up of 11 of the UK’s best foodies. They’ve banded together to cook up a multicultural feast for 150 hungry guests with all profits go to Action Against Hunger.

GAME SEASON AT MERCHANTS TAVERN

With game season rolling around Merchants Tavern are making it a mainstay on their menu. Chef Neil Borthwick a is a huge game lover and will offer dishes such as Beetroot, smoked grouse and endive salad.

SIMON ROGAN OPENS AULIS LONDON

Award-winning restaurateur Simon Rogan is opening an intimate chef’s table this autumn. Aulis London will be a culinary workshop by day and a spectacular dining experience by night. The clandestine kitchen will be found in the heart of London via its unassuming doors. It will serve eight people at a time for the ultimate personal dining experience.

10TH ANNIVERSARY OF ALAIN DUCASSE AT THE DORCHESTER

The Dorchester are celebrating a decade of Alain Ducasse’s culinary creativity with a limited edition menu. The seven-course 10th-anniversary offering reflects the restaurant’s diverse and rich heritage. To mark the milestone, guests will enjoy dishes such as the ‘Hand-dived sea scallop, citrus, caviar’ and the ‘Native lobster, ratte potatoes, wild mushrooms’.

The menu will launch with an exclusive evening, in presence of Alain Ducasse, on Tuesday 24th October at 7.00pm.  £430 pp, including a Dom Pérignon Champagne pairing for one night only. From the 25th October to 23d December, the 10th Anniversary Menu will be available for both lunch and dinner, £280 pp.

BASQUIAT: BOOM FOR REAL

This retrospective of pioneering New York prodigy, Basquiat is a first in UK history. Basquiat came to the media’s attention in 1978 when him and his classmate Al Diaz to graffitied enigmatic statements across the city. Basquiat: Boom for Real brings together an outstanding selection of more than 100 works, many never before seen in the UK. It’s the first exhibition to focus on the artist’s relationship to music, text, film and television.

NEW PUB TO VISIT: PENTONBRIDGE INN

Perfect for an autumn getaway is the latest venture from ex-Marcus Wareing chefs Jake and Cassie White. The husband and wife duo are heading up the kitchen of The Pentonbridge Inn. It’s a pub with rooms, offering a five course tasting menuwith canapés, priced at £60. On Sundays, diners can enjoy a special four course set menu, priced at £28 per person with the option of pre-ordering a specific cut of meat, such as a wing of beefDishes will be served personally by the chefs bringing an interactive experience to the dining and allowing customers to chat and interact directly with the person preparing their food.  Everything is made with produce from the Victorian walled garden and greenhouses at nearby Netherby Hall.

RAYMOND BLANC FESTIVAL OF MUSIC

This autumn, Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons will host the much anticipated Raymond Blanc Festival of Music. The festival takes place in the intimate setting of the 12th century St Mary’s Church and combines the very best in music and cuisine. This annual celebration showcases internationally acclaimed artists from the world of opera, classical music and jazz. Festivities begin with a Laurent-Perrier reception and with canapés, before a torch lit walk to St Mary’s Church. Guests will then return to Belmond Le Manoir to enjoy dinner with choice wines from the cellar, coffee and petits fours created by Raymond Blanc.

JASPER JOHNS: ‘SOMETHING RESEMBLING TRUTH’

Widely known for his iconic images of flags, targets, numbers and maps, Jasper Johns influence stretches far and wide. His groundbreaking work established a new direction in an art world previously dominated by Abstract Expressionism. This exhibition brings together works that rarely travel from international collections, along with new works by the artist.

PASTA MASTERCLASS WITH SIMONE REMOLI

Learn to cook and taste the Italian way at the Bellavita Academy this autumn. From this September, they are offering a series of pasta making master classes with Simone Remoli, owner of the Pasta Remoli restaurants. Designed for enthusiastic home cooks, you will learn how to prepare perfect pasta and sauces.

Courses start on September 4 and 5th, 6.30 pm for two hours, with further courses running in November, January and March. Course fee is £320 per person and include all ingredients, equipment and booking fees.

JAKE & DINOS CHAPMAN: THE DISASTERS OF EVERYDAY LIFE

For their first exhibition with Blain|Southern, Jake & Dinos Chapman expand on their career-long preoccupation with Spanish master Francisco Goya. They present for the first time their latest body of sculptural work in a dialogue with three full sets of Goya’s prints. Each set is substantially reworked in a different way by the Chapman brothers.
