Words Helen Brown

Following the resounding success of their hotels in London, Brighton and Cornwall, entrepreneurial husband and wife duo Charlie and Justin Salisbury are bringing Artist Residence to Oxfordshire. This latest venture is nestled in the beautiful countryside of South Leigh. It boasts bucket-loads of the group’s signature design, quirky artworks and exceptional food.

WHAT IS IT?

Artist Residence Oxfordshire currently stands as an inn and restaurant, with five en-suite bedrooms in the original farmhouse. Each room is individually designed in an English bohemian style. The three Farmhouse Loft rooms are spacious, light and airy with eclectic artwork and touches of luxury. For something extra special, book a stay in the Farmhouse Suite. This open plan space is complete with antique furnishings, Morris & Co fabrics and a brushed copper Catchpole & Rye roll top bath.

WHY GO?

As with the others in the group, owners Justin and Charlotte have worked wonders with the restoration to retain the heritage of the building. The original inglenook fireplace and flagstone floors, for example, sit happily alongside House of Hackney wallpapers, Andy Doig’s neon signs and mash-up artwork from the Connor Brothers. They’ve maintained the winning formula of previous venues; with sacrosanct pub and kitchen serving an inventive menu of seasonal, home-grown produce in a fun and eclectic setting. Leon Smith runs the kitchen. Having formerly trained under the Michelin-starred likes of Tom Aikens and Josh Eggleton, you can expect the best.

The rooms each sport original wooden beams and flooring and are furnished with an eclectic array of antiques, old-school rugs and Morris & Co fabrics. The perfect country getaway for kicking back, escaping the city and indulging in some good old-fashioned relaxation.Rates from around £165 for two people for two nights.
