Absolutely takes a look at the new collection from Stella McCartney
By Zoë Delmer-Best
‘We are the weather’ is a new Stella McCartney capsule collection featuring poetic phrases from the renowned author and environmentalist Jonathan Safran Foer. Featuring a punchy and rebellious array of pieces adorned with statements like ‘we are entirely free to live differently’ and beautiful archaic style prints, the collection spans across men’s and women’s ready to wear, knitwear and accessories and harbours a wide range of styles from easy to wear pieces such as the SOS jumper made from regenerated cashmere to the more avant-garde Gia Cotton Dress made from organic cotton.
Although with a hard-hitting agenda of climate change, the ‘We are the weather’ capsule collection has a surprisingly soft and delicate appearance. Items appear as if they have been naturally eroded by weather and colours err on the side of muted rather than lurid while elegant yet slouchy tailoring makes everything seem instantly wearable.
Sustainability is at the heart of the collection, as it is across the Stella McCartney brand. In keeping the the collections environmentalist spirit, close attention has been paid to the fabrics used. These include Organic Cotton, Organic Linen and Regenerated Cashmere which is cashmere that has been salvaged from pre-consumer textile waste created during the production process. So not only is the collection visually meaningful to the plight of the battle with climate change, it also actively counters it.
