Tackle the cold snap with our round-up of the fourteen best cosy shearling jackets to buy now
Words Joy Montgomery
The shearling jacket is yet another example of the military coat trend extending its reach across AW16’s eclectic fashion-scape. In the 1940s American pilots and the RAF took to the skies in sheepskin-lined bomber jackets, then in 1954 a brooding Marlon Brando popularised the shearling trim look in On the Waterfront. In 2016 you’re much more likely to see oversized Acne shearlings cocooning skinny jean-clad blondes on the King’s Road. Their seemingly cosy practicality have now become a style status symbol, signalling the birth of a true wardrobe classic.
For those who would need to re-mortgage their house to purchase an Acne shearling need not worry, because the high street offers a great selection of alternatives. This isn’t, however, a jacket to scrimp on. Best to save your pennies and invest in the real thing to avoid your shearling becoming sad and ratty after exposure to the elements.
If the classic aviator biker style isn’t to your taste then opt for a classic coat in the fuzzy fabric. We love Warehouse’s shell pink shearling, which offers a nod to this season’s chicest hue without a hint of girlishness.
