Your First Appointment
Before attending your first appointment, you will be asked to prepare the area or areas that are to be treated by doing the following:
- Remove hair: shave the area (s) up to 24 hours prior to treatment but not on the same day as treatment – doing so removes the bulk of the surface hair, which in turn reduces the chance of skin burning, but still allows the specialists to see enough of the hair follicle to know where they need to target the laser.
- Avoid wearing products: for example, if your underarms are to be treated we ask that you remove any trace of deodorant before you come to the clinic.
Before treatment begins, you will be required to wear goggles to protect your eyes from our powerful laser beams. The laser removal specialists will then administer the treatment and afterwards will provide you with aloe vera gel to soothe sensitive areas.
What to Expect During the Treatment
Unlike waxing or sugaring, which is often both time-consuming and painful, laser hair removal involves minimal discomfort and treatments are completed within a matter of minutes. Of course, this will depend on the area of the body you’re having treated, but in general, the experience is much more time-efficient and is found to be less painful.
When it comes to aftercare, to keep soreness and redness at bay you should regularly apply aloe vera gel or a similar cream product. It’s also best practice to stay out of the sun for the first 24 hours after you’ve had your treatment, and to keep the temperature of your showers and baths lukewarm for a couple of days. Extreme temperatures can irritate the skin.
As far as visible results, laser hair removal does require some degree of commitment, as going in for simply one session probably won’t make much of a difference. Most clinics will offer courses of 3, 6 or 8 sessions, and you can choose whichever suits your budget and schedule.
Things to Remember
A couple of things worth mentioning: remember not to use anything that removes the hair from the follicle while undergoing laser hair removal treatments such as waxing or plucking. Plucking/waxing hair will prolong the treatment process if you do not pertain to these instructions.
Avoid tanning sessions before the treatment, as having tanned skin will increase your susceptibility to hyperpigmentation and burning.
