Behind

Behind best new restaurants LondonAt this new Hackney restaurant, up to 18 guests sit at a single counter that encircles an open kitchen, which they reach by going ‘behind’ the pass. The eight-course tasting menu, created by chef Andy Beynon, focuses on sustainably-caught fish with dishes such as Cornish blue lobster on English muffin with yuzu.

Rendang + Rice

Rendang + rice Buck Street marketThe former Head of Innovation at Wagamama and a 2019 MasterChef quarter finalist, Jasmin Ayling is behind this new Indonesian eatery at Camden’s Buck Street Market. The food at Rendang + Rice is inspired by Jasmin’s family recipes, many of which she has adapted into vegan dishes. The bao is incredible, filled with vegan rendang made of oyster mushrooms and lentils.

Pali Hill

Pali Hill Food best new restaurants LondonOne of India’s most successful restaurant groups has opened Pali Hill. Named after an old Mumbai neighbourhood where residents often sent dishes to their neighbours to share, the menu is inspired by the melting pot of different regional flavours and culinary traditions found there. Downstairs, underground bar Bandra Bhai serves cocktails with an Indian twist.

Silver Birch Chiswick best new restaurants LondonWith experience at a plethora of Michelin-starred establishments, Kimberley Hernandez is head chef at this new independent restaurant in the heart of Chiswick. Serving seasonal British food, mains include shorthorn ribeye with  potato cream, green herb sauce and white anchovies.

Tacos Padre

Tacos Padre best new restaurants in LondonThis taqueria in Borough Market serves mouthwatering tacos filled with the likes of beef short rib, cauliflower al pastor and chicken with black beans. An expanded weekend evening menu includes larger Mexican plates to share served with tortillas, salsa and red guacamole. Think whole grilled brill with English peas and jalapeños, and crispy glazed pork carnitas.

Akoko

Akoko best new restaurants in LondonTaking inspiration from founder Aji Akokomi’s travels and Nigerian family recipes, this new restaurant uses the traditional cooking techniques of smoking, curing and fermenting to pay homage to west African cuisine. Meaning ‘time’ and ‘the first’ in Yoruba, Akoko serves elevated versions of household classics such as smoked goat with jollof rice and pounded yam with native lobster egusi.

The Nook

The Nook best new restaurants LondonThis new Highbury deli and wine bar serves modern dishes with a Turkish twist. The menu will change regularly but everything on it is designed to be enjoyed with wine; the thoughtful list champions Bethnal Green-based winery Renegade, and European producers too.

The Bermondsey Larder

The Dairy BermondseyPreviously in Clapham, The Dairy has opened at a new site in Bermondsey. While the menu is brand new, it will still focus on the very best seasonal ingredients acquired from a close network of suppliers, plus natural wines from small producers. Dishes include wood-roasted lamb, hayonnaise, charred lettuce and mint oil, and truffled Baron Bigod cheese on fig and walnut toast with rooftop honey.

Turnips

Turnips Borough Market restaurantTurnips, Borough Market stallholders for 30+ years, have launched a restaurant with chef Tomas Lidakevicius. Serving delicious small plates that celebrate vegetables, like sweet potato & lentil croquettes and sweet ’n’ sour cauliflower, meat eaters will love it too.

JaeJae

Jay Morjaria, known for running London’s first vegetarian cookery school and appearing on Million Pound Menu, is hosting a semi-permanent residency at Dalston cocktail bar, Untitled. Opening 3rd September on Thursdays-Saturdays, Jae will serve inventive twists on anju, Korean bites similar to tapas that are usually served with alcohol. Pair Untitled’s quirky cocktails with the likes of grilled padrón peppers with whipped feta and shin cup seasoning, and kimchi with devilled eggs and crispy shallots.
