HARE & BONE offer the perfect solution to achieving long, luscious locks for the party season
Words Elysia Agnew
If like me, you’re constantly seeking out products and experimenting with styles for thicker and healthier looking locks, you’ll understand my frustration. Even with the bounciest curls, bluntest cuts and the most exaggerated swooping fringes, I can’t seem to achieve the fuller, effortless look on my wish list. This is in part, because of the condition of my dry, highlighted hair after desperately enhancing a bold and blonde summer look. But with winter upon us, I’m looking to softer, warmer tones with hints of gold and brass throughout.
The fashion-forward Fitzrovia salon that is HARE & BONE has the seasonal solution to both my style and colour problems. The salon is the creation of Sam Burnett, an award winning stylist and Creative Director whose designs have inspired some of the most influential campaigns and brands worldwide. Experts in cutting, colouring, styling and understanding a client’s needs, where better to seek out sleek and stylish hair extensions. Offering this new and exclusive service, I’m booked in and ready for my new do.
The first step is an in-salon consultation where Chloe, an expert in the art of hair extensions, guides me through the process; from perfecting the colour and matching with the new hair, to the final fitting, cut and finish. Sitting with a glass of wine as we talk through the options, I decide to go with the pre-bonded individual human-hair extensions – they last longer and are easier to manage in the long term. We then talk through my colour change: from a bright, highlighted blonde toned down to a warmer colour for the colder months. I book in for a full head of highlights and lowlights, hoping to achieve a natural, staggered colour that will help the extensions blend with my own hair.
The colour treatment follows just a week later. A relaxing Saturday morning appointment with tea on tap and a pile of magazines to make my way through. I unwind into a world of printed fashion inspiration, celebrity news and salon chit-chat as my colourist Nathan works his magic. After a full head of neat foils and a nourishing conditioning treatment, I am over the moon with the result. A natural, deeper and darker blonde with warm tones and copper hues throughout. If autumn was a hairstyle, I’ve got it.
Colour-matched and ready to go, I book in for my third and final appointment. My new hair is carefully micro-bonded into place by Chloe, who is a real artist when it comes to achieving a bespoke head of long locks; adding both length and thickness. The bonds are barely visible to the human eye, cleverly positioned in sections that will benefit from the added volume. The result is flawless. My own hair blends perfectly with the extensions, boasting a loose and natural wave. I’m told I can enjoy at least three months with my new long locks, treating them as I do my own hair.
Eight hours, three appointments, a glass of wine and several tea pots later… my wispy and dry highlighted hair has been transformed into a thick, lengthy and warmer mane, perfect for the party season.
