Beauty experts have long extolled the healing powers of LED. However, for many light therapy has seemed inaccessible and slightly intimidating. Now one of country’s most renowned spa groups, Cowshed, are making LED approachable with their new Light Salons.

The light therapy takes the form of express facials which tackle everything from acne to pigmentation. Delivering energy into your skin cells, the facial is completely safe and suitable for all ages and skin types. It also boosts the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid along the way.

I opt for the speedy 20 minute Acne LED facial. You can enjoy it on its own or while having a mani or pedi. As well as giving you a radiant glow that lasts for days, a single session is also cited to lift your mood and reduce stress. LED therapy oxygenates the blood, lowers stress hormones and boosts the immune system.

I’m shown to an unfathomably comfortable reclining chair, my face cleansed and goggles applied to protect my eyes. All that’s left to do is relax under an LED lamp for 20 minutes.

Akin to lazing on a beach under the sun, you can expect to nod off at some point. The treatment is finishes with the application of moisturiser and a gentle facial massage.

‘Treat, Boost, Heal’ is the tagline for the LED treatments and I have to say it lives up to its promise. Immediately afterwards, and for the following weeks, my painful under-the-skin spots disappear. I also get no recurrent acne, scar pigmentation has dulled and my skin feels clearer and fresher.
