The homeowner’s brief was to create a ground floor space that worked for both everyday use and entertaining. In essence, this is a family home where design is paramount but function is key. Specialising in renovating Victorian and Georgian homes, London-based Mark Lewis Interior Design was appointed with the project transformation, and the result is a beautifully designed kitchen, pantry and dining room, which makes the most of the available space and is brought together through the flooring.
The project is characterised by bespoke cabinetry, rustic surfaces and accents of brass seen in the fixtures and fittings. The flooring plays a key role in the overall look, with the client opting for the oversized proportions of Hand Grade board in Neston, a warm mahogany hue with a highly textured and sculpted finish. The product was selected for its distinctive aged surface, which offered the appeal of a reclaimed aesthetic with the durability of an engineered oak construction. Designed for the most prestigious of projects, the Hand Grade flooring collection from Havwoods is a superior surface choice for creating maximum impact. Comprising of extra large boards, the engineered planks offer impressive proportions of almost half-a-metre in width and up to four metres in length. A high quality, high performance board, Hand Grande is available in eight distinctive finishes to ensure a perfect fit for any residential or commercial flooring project. Expertly manufactured using a superior triple layer construction, a birch ply core is encased between two panels of FSC-certified European Oak. The top layer comes in a choice of two surfaces: a 19mm plank with micro-bevelled edges and a smooth sanded appearance, and a sculpted, rounded-edge board with a textured and highly characterful appearance. The extra large planks are finished with a hard wax oil to help create a more durable and resistant surface. These oils are also micro-porous and water repellent, protecting the wood while further enhancing the beauty of its natural characteristics.
