Tatiana Korsakova, model, mother and entrepreneur, she is also the founder of Vaara – the luxe gymwear label that should be on your radar
Words Felicity Carter
Tatiana’s life has taken her from Moscow to Milan, New York to London and along the way, she has learned the importance of listening to, and caring for both the body and the mind. As a result, wellbeing is on the top of her agenda and Vaara was born. We spend five minutes with Tatiana to find out more about her brand…
Vaara, how did it come about?
As someone who is constantly on the go with a demanding schedule, two children and various projects, I felt that the choices on the activewear market were quite limited and not matching my lifestyle. It mostly felt like two extremes on the opposing ends of the spectrum: either serious high-performance gear or print-explosive yogawear, all of which look at odds with city life. I felt the need for an ‘active’ capsule wardrobe that would be easy to transform throughout the day, something concise, impactful, yet practical, and produced with premium materials. And thus Vaara was born two years ago.
Who is your customer?
A savvy, discerning and health-conscious woman, most likely an urban, cosmopolitan person with a sophisticated taste. We have noticed that our customer tends to be quite international, travels a lot and has a busy diary, so the pieces have to work hard for her, not just on the yoga mat or in the gym. Our customer appreciates versatility and quality in her wardrobe and tends to be very keen on a healthy, active lifestyle.
Tell us about the SS17 collection…
We’re expanding our range quite a bit this season and are introducing new styles across all our Product Tiers, in Perform, Rest and Enhance. But just as with all our collections, the constant founding thought underpinning our designs is this idea of an all-day active uniform, where the items take care of you throughout the day, so that Vaara can be easily incorporated into your routine. The scope of cuts and styles are very much rooted in that. There are new sports bra styles with varying coverage to suit different shapes and personal preferences, there are brand new seamless cashmere-knit bodywear sets for your rest time, and some great swim pieces.
What was the inspiration behind it?
Specifically this season, for Collection 3 we have introduced quite a fresh, new colour palette with nudes, pinks and corals – from the fabrics to the visual execution of our campaign we’re very much inspired by the colours and the light of the Mediterranean landscape.
Which is your favourite outfit from the SS17 collection?
The tailored track pant is such a hero piece, it works very well whether you’re heading out of the gym, going around town or on summer holiday site-seeing. It really pulls the look together and works with a number of our tops and bras too. I am bringing that on my travels for sure, as well as the swim sets, which I really love! The Vera sports bra with the strappy back in pink is also another favourite of mine for the hotter months.
Do you have a life/work motto?
I do believe that a man is the sum of his/her actions and actions indeed speak louder than words at the end of the day. I really don’t appreciate time-wasting, as there is so little of it.
