Premium London optician The Eye Place explain why it’s vital to look after your eye health, even during lockdown

Paid partnership

The numerous lockdowns have very much taken over every aspect of our lives, including how we take care of ourselves and our bodies. Whilst some methods of selfcare and healthy living can continue at home from cooking nutritious meals, to pampering and home workouts, we do need to visit the opticians to look after our eyes and eye health.

As an essential service, opticians are currently open, and The Eye Place continues to provide its impeccably high level of eyecare to its patients and the local community. Since the beginning of the pandemic thousands of people have unfortunately missed out on their regular eye examinations and treatment which could potentially lead to deterioration in vision and in some cases vision loss. As eyecare professionals it is our duty to protect our patients and their eye health and encourage eye examinations as a regular part of a healthy lifestyle.

The Eye Place Store Eye HealthAlthough people may feel reluctant to visit their opticians under the current circumstances for an eye examination, it is incredibly important to keep up to date with your appointments. An eye examination is much more than just a prescription update, it is also an assessment of the internal and external health of your eyes.

There are different levels of eye examination at The Eye Place and we pride ourselves on a service encompassing all aspects of care to maximise vision and preserve eye related health to a far higher standard. One of the most important parts to an eye examination is assessing the health of the retina which is done using the best technology in optometry.

The Eye Place Eye Health TechnologyOur assessment of the retina is aided by two of our state-of-the-art devices, the Optomap and 3D OCT scans. The Optomap scan captures a view of up to 85% of the back surface of the eye, far greater than any other method available. The scan collected allows not just an assessment of the number of eye related concerns, but also an insight into general health aspects such as diabetes and high blood pressure. The 3D OCT scan is centred around the areas at the back of the eye most commonly affected by the ageing process, the optic nerve and the macular. Both structures are scanned to form a three-dimensional view of the tissue establishing the relationship between the variety of layers of the retina and isolating the early signs of change.

Technology isn’t the only thing The Eye Place is known for. We have a vast collection of unique eyewear selected for their individuality and exclusivity. From well known, household names to pieces made from natural materials such as slate and horn there is something to suit all styles and personalities on our shelves.

The Eye Place StoresAs people are spending more time on video calls for work and staying in touch with family and friends, there has been an increase in people updating their spectacles. Glasses are often the first thing people see, and in a time where loungewear is the new workwear, they are a great accessory to elevate an understated look and show off your personality. The bigger and bolder the style the better, with oversized frames, clear materials and geometric shapes being the favourite styles for this season. Whether it’s an aviator from Ray-Ban or a round eye from Garrett Leight, you’re sure to find your work-from-home look here.

It is understandable under the current circumstances that a visit to the opticians may feel unnecessary. In line with government and industry guidance, The Eye Place has several measures in place to ensure your visit is safe and comfortable. As a clinical environment our practices regularly clean and sanitise equipment in between patients, added measures include protective screens where possible, PPE, UV sterilising units for handheld equipment and eyewear is sanitised after it has been handled or tried on. Visits to our practices are by appointment so that we can manage numbers and ensure contact with others is at a safe distance, and with there being less people in London currently, a trip to our branches is like a VIP experience!

Whether you have missed your regular appointment, have noticed any changes in your vision or want to update your glasses to something new and exciting, our practices are open, and we look forward to seeing you.
