WEAR SOMETHING LOOSE AND COMFORTABLE

On the day it’s good to wear something that is both loose and easy to remove. Firstly, this will allow for quick and easy undressing before the treatment. Secondly, it will make your journey home more comfortable, as the skin will feel a little sore and sensitive afterwards. Also, remember that talcum powder is often used in the treatment so avoid anything dark coloured.

LET YOR HAIR GROW OUT

It might sound counterintuitive but you should let hair grow out for at least three weeks before your wax. The shorter the hair, the harder it is to remove. However, bear in mind that if it’s too long this will also make the process more painful, so aim for about a quarter inch.

CONSIDER TIME OF THE MONTH

You can get a wax when you’re on your period, however most experts advise against it if it’s your first time. Skin tends to be more sensitive during your period so can make the waxing process more painful (and no one wants that…)

TAKE A PRE-WAX SHOWER

If you’re feeling self-conscious about the intimacy of a bikini wax then you might feel more comfortable having a shower beforehand. Your beautician will thank you for it too!

TAKE PAIN KILLERS BEFOREHAND

Pain will probably be at the forefront of your mind when preparing for your first wax. It’s true that it can be more painful the first time – this is due to the quality of the hair – however it will improve with each treatment. Try popping some paracetamol a few hours before your wax as this will help take the edge off the pain and will dial down any redness and inflammation.

DON’T EXERCISE AFTERWARDS

Exercising after a wax is a no-no. It’s important to avoid irritating the skin further post-treatment. Just think of it as your get-out-of-gym-free pass!
