Try something different this AW16 with 17 of the best tulle buys
Words Joy Montgomery
Once the reserve of little girls, ballet dancers and brides, tulle is AW16’s no one-saw-that-coming fabric making a comeback. Thanks to fashion designers Simone Rocha and Molly Goddard (AKA the Queen of punked-up tulle party dresses) this frothy fabric has graced the catwalk once more, yet this time round there’s a contemporary twist.
Not unlike this year’s penchant for elevating everyday sportswear – low becoming high – the return to tulle comes with a side order of casual – high becoming low. While bombers and side stripe trackies are on a conveyor belt to luxury, tulle tops, dresses and skirts are being layered over jeans and sweatshirts and grounded by box-fresh Stan Smiths. Molly Goddard asserts that her frothy party dresses were made to be worn over casual clothes as an easy and fun way to offer something extra to an everyday ensemble.
Those who don’t feel brave enough for the ‘band tee-under-tulle’ look should opt for a black ruffled tulle blouse, layered over a pretty triangle lace bra and tucked into cropped flares – an easy-yet-chic date night ensemble.
We found seventeen of the best tulle looks in pink, black and blue hues so you can find the perfect look for your wardrobe…
