This season promises to be an exciting one in the interior design world. Whether you’re looking to breathe new life into your home or are simply looking for inspiration, read on for our pick of the hottest new trends…

Greenery

Named as Pantone’s colour of the year, ‘Greenery’ will be a huge trend this summer. You will see it in the form of leaf prints, tropical wallpaper and colour palettes inspired by fresh spring shoots. Perhaps a reaction to the political and financial turmoil of recent years, many designers are now favouring decor which encourages peace and tranquility. Bring the outside in with decorative terrariums, succulents and branches in an ode to one of 2017’s most popular trends.

Moroccan Renaissance

Summer will also herald the revival of North African-inspired tones, patterns and materials. Think earthy, heady hues such as teal, rust and burgundy and geometric designs. Create your very own riad by adorning your living space with hand-knotted rugs, raffia accesories and Bazaar-style lanterns. Layer up for authenticity; the more ornate, the better.

Deconstructed Luxe

Blown plaster walls, exposed brickwork and natural materials reign supreme this year. In a nod to industrialism trumping consumerism, the high-gloss finishes of last year are substituted with raw materials such as cork, clay and reclaimed wood. ‘Lagom’ is 2017’s answer to the Scandinavian ‘Hygge’ craze. Stripped back and defined by moderation and our growing desire to reconnect with nature, Lagom draws on minimal materials that stimulate our senses. To add texture, counterbalance worn-in edges with metal, marble or plexiglass.

Art Deco

At the other end of the spectrum, Art Deco-style sophistication will also be a key trend this year. Though Art Deco has been a consistently popular source of inspiration for designers, many are now placing a modern twist on the period’s opulence and glamour with contemporary colours and patterns. The trend can be found in bold wallpaper, statement lighting, mirrored surfaces and pieces with subtle gilt and brass accents.

Velvet Decadence

In keeping with the Art Deco theme, velvet will have a huge impact in 2017. Sofas will be upholstered in the plush fabric, as will cushions, padded headboards and throws. Sumptuous jewel tones, especially greens, golds and navy blues, will feature heavily. Combine these rich hues with delicate pastel shades for a dose of boho-come-romantic decadence.
