Absolutely enjoys a fresh feast at authentic Italian eatery, Casa Mia, whose delicious dishes and friendly atmosphere makes for the ideal night out

Casa Mia encapsulates the quintessential Italian restaurant. With outdoor patio seats and a charming rustic interior, it could well have been lifted straight from Italy and transported to the cosy streets of Hampton Court Village. Seated at a neatly laid table next to the windows, I take in the buzzing dining room, and its obvious popularity a compliment to the cosy atmosphere and quality of the food. Casa Mia is a place to celebrate everything Italian: family, friends, and the love of good food.

The menu is expansive, and contains everything from homemade pastas, sirloin and fillet steaks, and a large selection of seafood, from Scampi Provinciale to a loaded Fumetto di Pesce (you think of a type of shellfish, and it’s there).

As we deliberate, we nibble on a basket of warm, fresh baguette, which we wash down with a glass of prosecco. To start I choose the mussels, and my companion the cured meats platter, which arrive with speedy punctuality. The mussels are beautifully soft, swimming in a tangy tomato broth which is delicate enough not to overpower the mussels, and have just a hint of garlic and heat. It’s hard to go wrong with cured meats, and it doesn’t disappoint, with a large selection of classic Italian Salamis and parma ham that my companion pairs with the baguette.

Eager to try the extensive selection of fresh pasta, I opt for the linguine and clams as a main, and my companion a fillet steak served with a selection of seasonal mixed vegetables. The linguine is a highlight, slightly al dente with fresh clams soaked in delicate white wine and garlic sauce and garnished with handfuls of parsley. It seems to get better with each bite, and my dining partner is equally taken by his own steak, which is both tender and full flavour.

Casa Mia is undoubtedly delighting the taste buds of its neighbours (and me!) with its authentic and simple Italian dishes. It’s a place I highly recommend trying at least once with food delicious enough to have you coming back for more every time.
