Shoreditch’s food and drink scene is going from strength to strength, bolstered by its reputation for being London’s prestigious hipster hang-out. It’s East London’s creative hub which attracts a growing roster of celebrity chefs and the latest London hot-spots. Here you can get any cuisine at near-enough any hour. These restaurants in Shoreditch prove that London’s coolest neighbourhood is a foodie favourite.
RED ROOSTER
Acclaimed New York chef Marcus Samuelsson brings his renowned Harlem restaurant to Shoreditch. Red Rooster serves up soulful Southern comfort food, with a pinch of northern European flavour. This latest Red Rooster outpost features many of the original’s signature dishes along with some new ones created especially for its London home.
LYLES
This Michelin-starred restaurant is headed up by James Lowe and focuses on seasonal British ingredients. It’s a bright airy space with tall ceilings, concrete floors and wooden furniture. The menu is creative and includes dishes such as mutton with little gem and anchovy.
MERCHANTS TAVERN
This converted Victorian warehouse and former apothecary in the centre of Shoreditch offers a grown-up dining experience with fantastic food and a tantalising wine list. Angela Hartnett and Neil Borthwick’s menus include seasonal and modern European dishes such as whole lemon sole with spinach, brown butter, capers and parsley. For a more relaxed vibe, the bar serves sausage rolls, salt cod beignets and other bite-sized snacks.
NOBU SHOREDITCH
Nobu, the culinary frontrunner in Eastern cuisine landed in East London this summer with the opening of Nobu Hotel Shoreditch. The five-storey hotel includes a 240-cover restaurant, a two-tier outdoor terrace, private dining room and a sushi bar. This new Nobu delivers everything the brand is famous for. Guests can choose from signature dishes such as Black Cod Miso and Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno.
TIENDA ROOSTERIA
For tacos, tequila, good times and a top atmosphere, Tienda is the go-to. Set on the ground floor of The Curtain hotel, it boasts eclectic interior style and a playful menu. Old school hip-hop will be the soundtrack to an evening slurping frozen margaritas.
HKK
Choose between the eight or 15-course taster menu at HKK and let the skillful chefs take it from there as they whip up an incredible selection of dim sum and fusion dishes. Michelin-starred chef Tong Chee Hwee has created a menu with perfect balance between the expected and the innovative.
HAWSMOOR
King of the prime-cuts, Hawksmoor’s Spitalfields venue is where it all started. The meat comes from Ginger Pig – a local London butcher – and is seared to absolute perfection. Portion sizes are generous, the cocktail menu is impressive and the triple cooked chips are dangerously addictive.
