ANDREAS GURSKY, HAYWARD GALLERY
Explore the wonders of acclaimed German photographer, Andreas Gursky at the Hayward Gallery. Get lost in spectacular images, driven by an interest into ‘the way the word is constituted’. His photographs are not just reflections of symbolic sites and contemporary ways of life, they test human perceptions and encourage a democratic view of the world by giving equal representation to each detail captured.
GLENN BROWN, GAGOSIAN GALLERY
Enjoy Brown’s new exhibition Come to Dust at the Gagosian Gallery. The immaculate display offers oil paintings, drawings in period frames, grisaille panel works, etchings and sculptures. The exhibition was named after a song in Shakespeare’s play, Cymbeline, which explores the inescapable concept of death. The exhibition includes a fully illustrated catalogue and essay by novelist, Hari Kunzru.
MARIO KLINGEMANN, THE PHOTOGRAPHERS’ GALLERY
Mario Klingerman’s artwork produced through machine algorithms, Neurography – on the media wall, is a must see. His use of algorithms creates cameraless photography through neutral networks capturing 5000 images per night. The media wall on show will project numerous works in progress and experiments Klingemann has undertaken.
PHILIP PEARLSTEIN, SAATCHI GALLERY
Indulge your eyes in American artist, Philip Pearlstein’s works at the Saatchi Gallery. With a working history with Andy Warhol, his artworks are bound to blow your mind. The show offers eight large-scale oil paintings celebrating the naked human form. This subject has occupied Pearlstein’s mind from the 1960s as he believes ‘it is a shape that is always changing’. These paintings challenge the normalities of portritature and provide a bold emotive response.
GIORGIO GRIFFA, CAMDEN ARTS CENTRE
See the works of renowned Italian artist, Giorgio Griffa, from the 1960s up to now before they disappear. Griffa’s works are beautiful in their simplicity. He allows the use of tools and materials to influence each creation, such as the width of his brush, colour choice and canvas. His deliberate choice to never fill a canvas and focus on short brush strokes signifies ongoing life and enhances our understanding of beauty in all its moments.
MODIGLIANI, TATE MODERN
Enjoy Modigliani’s famous and sensual artworks from the 20th century. This beautiful collection reunites 12 of his nude paintings, resulting in the largest group displayed in the UK. The collection also features striking sculptures and innovative portraits of his friends, loved ones and supporters, including world renown Pablo Picasso. Be sure to line up for the VR experience. Here, you will get to see Modigliani’s studio recreated.
MONOCHROME, THE NATIONAL GALLERY
Look at art in a whole new way with Monochrome, an exhibition which features a variety of famous artists work in black and white. Viewing artwork in this form will increase your eye for detail as you see the textures and shades behind black, grey and white bringing new meaning to art. Lastly, finish with a visit to Eliasson’s immersive ‘Room for one colour’ to have your perception of colour altered forever. This exhibition should not be missed.
JULES DE BALINCOURT, VICTORIA MIRO GALLERY
Experience Brooklyn-based artist, Jules de Balincourt exhibition, They Cast Long Shadows this month at Victoria Miro gallery. The all consuming display provides insight into the world we live from de Balincourt’s own psychological landscape. This new collection is left ambiguous so the audience an draw their own conclusions about current social and political dynamics in contemporary america.
