Wedding season is upon us and that means it’s time for those of us lucky enough to be chosen to begin the bridesmaid dress hunt. Previously a dreaded experience for any grown woman, thankfully brides now have a plethora of stylish options available to them. Gone are the days of overpriced, crushed-satin gowns. Thank God.

With the rustic, homemade wedding look still going strong this year, brides are wanting pick-and-mix dresses in trend led cuts. Cue the high street. Countless brands – including Topshop, Whistles and ASOS – now offer specified bridal lines. These dresses are wedding-ready yet chic enough to be worn again post-nuptials.

With matchy-matchy bridesmaid styles starting to look a little outdated, this year it’s all about mixing cuts and colours. Intricate beading and embroidery are both popular looks this season and have plentiful offerings on the high street. Hosting a black tie ‘do? Beading offers a bit of red carpet glamour on your big day – Monsoon and Needle & Thread are great for floor-skimming iterations in delicate hues. Meanwhile, contemporary florals and embroidery are perfect for a cool countryside bash. Zara’s embroidered mini dress exudes bohemian cool, while Ted Baker’s laser-cut skater dress is a dead ringer for Self Portrait. Forgo stilettos and pair these looks with pretty pointed flats for Alexa Chung-inspired nonchalance.

Overwhelmed by the sheer amount of choice? Our hero buy has to be Whistles’ La La Land one shoulder maxi dress. Figure flattering and with an on-trend yellow hue, it’s ideal for fashionable brides wanting something a little more chic for their grown-up maid of honour. Simply accessorise with a floral headpiece, glowing skin and just-woke-up-like-this hair. Pew to party? No problem.
