Skincare Tips To Combat Adult Acne

When it comes to skincare, having a regular routine is key to ensuring your complexion remains healthy and youthful. Adult acne affects many women in the UK and around the world; the likes of Kendall Jenner and Lorde have recently spoken out with regards to their experience with adult acne. For many women, acne is a skin condition that occurs in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s as opposed to just their teenage years. Amanda Von Dem Hagen, lead skincare development officer at glo Skin Beauty shares her top tips on how to take control of the issue.

Adjust your diet

The first thing you should do if you are suffering from adult acne is to take a look at your diet and try to pinpoint the problem. Are you eating a lot of dairy? Consuming fizzy drinks and not enough water? Try to eat foods that are anti-oxidant based such as blueberries and acai berries, as well as foods that are a source of good fatty acids such as avocados. A few other key nutrients that you should try and include in your daily diet are Vitamin A, Zinc, Probiotics & Omega 3, these all provide varying benefits to your skin and overall diet, but all help to keep your skin youthful and plump.

De-stress your life

In today’s fast-paced environment, we’re busy 24/7 and wanting to do as much as we can. But this can have a detrimental effect on our skin. The best thing to do is to cut down your time spent in the office. If you work a 9-5 job but are staying late every night, this is not going to be good for your mental well-being, and in turn, damaging to your skin health. Try to free up some time in your week for some self-care such as having a bubble bath, taking a yoga class or even going for a walk outside to ease the stress off.

Know your ingredients

Salicylic Acid (also known as beta-hydroxy acid) is a fantastic acne treatment as it gently exfoliates and unclogs pores. Benzoyl Peroxide works by killing the acne bacteria while exfoliating the pores at the same time. Other acid-based ingredients to look out for are Glycolic Acid for exfoliation and Retinol for its collagen-building properties.

Natural exfoliation is key

Exfoliation is one of the most important things you can do to fight acne in both prevention and treatment. It gently gets rid of any dead skin cells and excess oil that can promote acne. Try to use a more subtle type of exfoliation or a natural exfoliant. A few natural ingredients you can use to make your own exfoliator are baking soda, sugar, sea salt, honey and oats.

Up the vitamins and minerals

Taking daily supplements can be an easy yet beneficial way to clear your skin, and there are many you can choose from. Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin B complex, Zinc and magnesium can all be bought from health stores and are a simple yet effective way to try and combat the condition.gloskinbeautyuk.com
