Missed out on those much-needed hours? We’ve rounded-up seven top make-up tips for faking a good night’s sleep

DON’T FORGET PRE MAKE-UP PREP
Put down the concealer. One of the best ways to counteract tired face is through pre-makeup prep. Firstly, try splashing your face with both warm and cold water to get circulation flowing. Secondly, use your morning cleanser to give yourself a facial massage – an age-old facialist technique which encourages lymphatic drainage and boosts radiance – we love Lisa Eldridge’s video guide for inspiration. If you need a final cooling kick try gently pressing chilled spoons (kept in the freezer) onto the under-eye area for ultimate de-puffing results.

MAKE SURE YOU MOISTURISE
Lack of sleep can cause your skin to become dehydrated, causing dullness and accentuated fine lines. A brightening day moisturiser and eye cream will boost your glow and offer a smoother surface to apply make-up. We love Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Eye Rescue and Perricone MD’s Face Finishing Moisturiser. Top tip: try keeping your skincare and eye cream in the fridge for a more refreshing skin prepping experience.

DON’T OVERDOSE ON FOUNDATION
You may be tempted to camouflage your pale, puffy visage with a thick layer of foundation, however holding back on cakey products will allow your skin to breathe and make your complexion appear fresher and more awake. Go for a creamy yet light, light-reflecting formula and lightly blend in with your fingertips, targeting blemished areas and dark circles. We love Clarins’ True Radiance Foundation SPF 15.

OPT FOR YELLOW-TONED CONCEALER
To tackle unwieldy dark circles opt for yellow-toned under-eye illuminater to counteract blue shadows. Products like YSL Touch Eclat and Clinique Airbrush Concealer offer translucent, light-reflecting formulas that won’t sink into fine lines yet will still provide the coverage you crave. Top tip: for a professional finish, try applying your concealer in an upside-down triangle shape, starting at your lash line and ending at your cheeks.

CURL YOUR LASHES
Simple yet effective. A quick flick with a pair of eyelash curlers will instantly open up tired eyes and offer an easy base for applying mascara.

SPOT HIGHLIGHT
Use strategic spots of highlighter to finish off your fresh-faced base. Apply to areas where the light catches such as the cheekbones, bridge of the nose and cupid’s bow. Cool-toned complexions should use pink-hued products, such as Benefit’s High Beam, while warmer skin will benefit from golden undertones – Nars’ South Beach Multiple will do the job nicely.

USE TACTICAL HITS OF COLOUR
For the final flourish, you can’t go wrong with a pop of colour. Whether it’s a rosy touch of blusher or smudge of coral-coloured lipstick, a hit of pink or red will lift your look and offer a healthy flush.Image courtesy of wildfox.com
